🎬 Filmmaking
At Motion Film Academy, you don’t just learn about filmmaking. You make films.
Our filmmaking students learn how a real production works, from developing an idea and preparing a scene through to filming and working as part of a crew.
Plan. Set up. Shoot.
Each filmmaking session begins with practical production work.

You’ll learn how to set up cameras, lighting and sound, prepare a scene, work out camera positions and shots, and organise the production before filming begins.
Then the actors arrive.
Our filmmaking students join the session and the two groups work together to create an actual filmed scene.
You’ll be working with young filmmakers who are learning how to direct, operate cameras, record sound and produce films.
You’ll need to respond to direction, hit your marks, work with the camera and deliver a convincing performance.

Depending on your experience and the production, you could take on different roles including:
- 🎥 Camera operator
- 🎬 Director
- 🎙️ Sound recordist
- 💡 Lighting
- 👗 Costume
- 🔨 Props
- 👩🏽🦰 Hair and Makeup
- 🎞️ Continuity
- 📋 Assistant director
- 🎬 Producer
- ✂️ Editor
You’ll learn to work as a team, communicate with actors and solve the practical problems that come with making a film.
Learn the craft. Work as a crew.
Direct. Shoot. Edit. Make films

Then it’s your turn to develop.
Once filming is complete, the filmmaking students finish their session and the actors continue with their specialist acting work.
This means your filmmaking time is focused on making and developing films, rather than sitting through an acting class.
As you progress, you’ll take on more responsibility and more demanding roles, moving from basic production skills towards directing, cinematography, editing and leading your own productions.
