Behaviour Policy

Effective date: 25 September 2026
Review date: September 2027

1. Purpose

Motion Film Academy aims to provide a safe, respectful and productive environment in which students can learn filmmaking and acting.

All students are expected to behave in a way that allows others to learn and participate safely.

2. Expected behaviour

Students are expected to:

  • Treat other students, tutors and visitors with respect.
  • Follow reasonable instructions from tutors.
  • Listen when others are speaking.
  • Take reasonable care of academy equipment and the venue.
  • Behave safely when using cameras, lighting and other equipment.
  • Respect personal boundaries and other people’s property.
  • Participate positively in group activities.
  • Follow the academy’s safeguarding and online-safety rules.

3. Unacceptable behaviour

Unacceptable behaviour includes:

  • Bullying, harassment or intimidation.
  • Discriminatory or abusive language.
  • Deliberately disrupting sessions.
  • Threatening or aggressive behaviour.
  • Deliberately damaging equipment or property.
  • Unsafe use of equipment.
  • Persistent refusal to follow reasonable instructions.
  • Inappropriate filming, photography or sharing of other students’ images or content.

4. Managing behaviour

Tutors will normally deal with minor incidents through:

  1. A clear reminder of the expected behaviour.
  2. A warning where behaviour continues.
  3. Removal from an activity where necessary to maintain safety or allow others to continue learning.
  4. Referral to the DSL or academy management where the behaviour is serious, persistent or raises a safeguarding concern.
  5. Contact with the parent/carer where appropriate.

Serious incidents may result in a student being asked to leave a session or, where necessary, being suspended or removed from the academy.

5. Physical intervention

Physical intervention will only be used where necessary and reasonable to prevent injury or serious harm, and in accordance with applicable law and safeguarding requirements.

Any such incident must be reported to the DSL and recorded.

6. Bullying and safeguarding

Bullying, harassment, threatening behaviour or other conduct that may indicate a safeguarding concern will be dealt with under the relevant safeguarding procedure as well as this behaviour policy where appropriate.

7. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually and following any significant incident or change to academy activities.
